DYSL WearHouse Thrift StoreVolunteer – it will make you feel good! The thrift store is not just your ordinary thrift store, but a place where youth and adults feel that they belong to a TEAM . We welcome volunteers of all abilities and disabilities and ages. Each member of our TEAM is treated with respect and dignity. We believe if you want to volunteer, why not have fun and work in a safe and friendly environment. 93% of all DYSL program funding comes from the thrift store. This makes it a very important social enterprise. Donations: We gratefully accept donations in good/excellent condition only. We accept up-to-date clean clothing for women, men and children, books, jewelry, small furniture (no springs allowed), sporting goods, small housewares etc. We cannot accept mattresses, bedding, pillows, encyclopedias, TV’s (unless flat screen) , old computers, or larger furniture with springs. Recycling: We try hard to recycle everything! Warm clothing, socks, sleeping bags etc. are donated to the downtown Eastside shelters. Old blankets that are not allowed to be sold go to the Delta Humane Society, and clothing or textiles that don’t meet our high standards of quality, go to a textile recycling plant. Metal and cardboard also gets picked up for recycling. Our thrift store allows Community Hour youth to complete their mandated court hours in a non-judgmental environment. We constantly hear comments from them that they actually” had fun doing their hours and the people were so nice to them”.
To volunteer at DYSL, please come into the thrift store and complete an application form. Each adult will have a police background check at no cost to them.
