DYSL WearHouse

(Formerly DYSL Discoveries Thrift Store)

Hours:
Monday - Saturday 10:00AM - 5:00PM
Thursdays 10:00AM - 8:00PM

This store is our main source of fundraising for our youth programs.

We pride ourselves in offering quality items that will attract customers of all ages and incomes. As a matter of fact, most people don’t even know that they are in a thrift store! As they walk through the door, it is a bright and clean shop where donated goods are attractively displayed. Our volunteers dedicated 5 long days to renovate the store last month to the delight of our customers.

Our pricing and special sales events attract both local and outlying communities. We gratefully accept donations that are in good condition such as:

  • Clothing (up-to-date fashions only please)
  • House wares
  • Small appliances
  • Books
  • Jewelry
  • Collectibles/Antiques

We do NOT accept old model televisions, appliances, electronics, computers, computer monitors, batteries, large furniture, mattresses or encyclopedias due to space & recycling restrictions.

Our “green” policy means we recycle whatever we are able or donate items to others. Our volunteers make tote-bags from unsold t-tops and these are used in place of plastic bags. We welcome any “green” suggestions and will implement them where we are able.

We also are looking for local crafters to be able to have them showcase their items by allowing them to sell items at a designated table within the store. Youth may hold fundraising events at the store after hours. One of our volunteers just held 2 fundraisers after hours at the store to help fund her way to attend Former US V-P, Al Gore's Climate Project Canada environmental program in the US. She was chosen from a large group of youth to attend.

Thank you to Signcorp for their generous donation of our new sign "DYSL WearHouse"!

Volunteer Opportunities

DYSL needs more volunteers! Volunteers are needed for special projects and at our DYSL WearHouse. We also need a marketing student or retired marketing person to assist with implementing our new plan for which we received a grant.

If you really want to feel good about yourself – try volunteering!

If you are 12 and older, please consider joining our volunteer team of all ages and abilities. Any assistance is truly appreciated! Our dedicated store managers and family of volunteers co-ordinate an efficient operation in a pleasant and congenial environment. Make new friends and feel good about giving back to the community!

We also need volunteers for “special events” held throughout the year. When setting up our Collectibles Sale, we had 26 volunteers between the ages of 12 and 85 working, laughing, eating, pricing, testing our appliances and displaying our items.

"Volunteering at DYSL has had an enormous influence on me. Being around these amazing volunteers has given me the realization of security and comfort having to be aware that there are those people who are always concerned about me. Most significantly, when I am under stress by this ever so enigmatic teenage angst. Having to think back on the memorable grown up talks I have had with the volunteers, it brings back memories and a smile. That is definitely one of the best treasures I have gained from DYSL.

The DYSL volunteers support me emotionally and check on me to make sure I am doing okay. Thank you as well for financing the tutoring I needed. It has helped me greatly by improving my writing and has encouraged my interest to pay more attention to my studies.

I thank you all very much for everything! It has been invaluable to me. It is almost impossible to find the words that describe my gratitude for everything that I have gained from volunteering at DYSL.

Again, thank you so much. I greatly appreciate your generosity and friendships."

"This last summer I volunteered at the DYSL WearHouse and it was by far one of my most rewarding experiences yet. I was welcomed into the staff by many seasoned professionals who had put their time and knowledge into bettering the community, and there was a warm and friendly atmosphere at all times in the shop. Not only did I learn many tricks of the trade from the other volunteers, I felt much more connected with the town and my fellow citizens. I always enjoyed working and being in the store at all times and was very sad when my family's move prevented me from volunteering any further. This is a great experience for teenagers, Not only does it enhance their resumes, but it is also very fun."
